50-Hour Breathwork Facilitator Training

at Rootline · Ahangama

Why this one

Program highlights

  • Runs in Rootline's dedicated breathwork room, purpose-built for the practice
  • Covers multiple techniques, not just one lineage — conscious connected breathing, somatic release work, and calming/activating protocols
  • Small cohort of 14 with two facilitators in the room for supervised practice
  • Central Ahangama location, walkable to the yoga and surf scene for downtime
Set the right expectations

Is this training for you?

Good fit if
  • You want to facilitate breathwork for others, 1-on-1 or in groups, not just deepen your own practice
  • You can handle 6 intensive days without much built-in rest — the schedule is dense
  • You're comfortable being emotionally present with strangers' releases during supervised practice
Look elsewhere if
  • You're currently in an acute mental health crisis — breathwork facilitation training involves intense personal practice and isn't the right context for that right now
  • You want a single-lineage deep-dive rather than a broad, practical overview
  • You need external accreditation for insurance purposes in your home country — check your local requirements before enrolling
What you'll actually study

What you'll learn

Breath Physiology & Safety — 8h

How different breathing patterns affect the body and nervous system, and the contraindications every facilitator needs to know before working with a group.

Conscious Connected Breathing — 14h

The core technique used across most modern breathwork lineages, practiced daily with both peer and facilitator-led sessions.

Trauma-Informed Facilitation — 10h

Reading a room, responding to strong emotional releases, and knowing what's within scope for a facilitator versus what needs referral elsewhere.

Session Design for 1-on-1 and Group Work — 10h

Structuring a session from opening to integration, and adapting the same technique for a single client versus a room of twenty.

Supervised Practice Facilitation — 8h

Each participant leads a full session for peers, observed and given direct feedback by the lead facilitator.

Ruwan Gunasekara
Breathwork Facilitator & Program Director
Leads Rootline's daily breathwork programming and has facilitated group sessions for several years before developing this training. Trained across a few different breathwork lineages rather than committing to just one, which shows in the program's deliberately broad, non-dogmatic curriculum.

Certification

Program hours
50 hours
Certifying body
None — in-house certificate

Graduates receive an in-house 50-hour Breathwork Facilitator certificate from Rootline. Not currently affiliated with an external certifying body — breathwork has no single dominant accrediting body the way yoga has Yoga Alliance, so this documents your training hours and curriculum for your own records or for a future employer to assess.

Best for
Travelers and small groups wanting reliable daily yoga and breathwork without booking a full private retreat.

A dedicated yoga and breathwork space in Ahangama built around consistency rather than boutique styling: daily classes, visiting-teacher programs, and retreat hosting for groups that want a functional, well-run shala. Breathwork runs alongside the yoga programming, making it a straightforward option for combining both practices in one place.

Frequently asked questions

1Is this intense? I've never done breathwork before.+
It can be, yes — conscious connected breathing sometimes surfaces strong emotions, and this training involves daily personal practice on top of the facilitation training itself. Some prior experience with breathwork or meditation helps set expectations, though it's not a strict requirement.
2Can I facilitate professionally after this?+
The 50-hour format gives you a solid technical and safety foundation for 1-on-1 and small-group work. Whether you need additional hours or supervision before charging for sessions depends on your local regulations, which vary a lot by country — worth checking before you start practicing commercially.
3Is the certificate recognized by an external body?+
No — it's an in-house certificate. Breathwork doesn't have one dominant global accrediting body, so most facilitators work from in-house or lineage-specific training like this.
4What if I have a panic attack or strong reaction during practice?+
This is genuinely common in breathwork training, which is why the trauma-informed facilitation module exists and why there are always two facilitators in the room during group sessions. If you have a history of panic disorder, PTSD, or are currently in an acute mental health crisis, talk to us before enrolling — this training isn't the right setting for that right now.
5Do I need a visa for Sri Lanka?+
Citizens of many countries get visa-free entry or can apply for a low-cost ETA online before travelling. We'll confirm the latest requirements for your nationality once you enquire.
